New York – Six people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a Hong Kong ferry accident that left several people dead. As reported by Reuters, Hong Kong police made the arrests after a ferry and a company boat transporting passengers to watch fireworks collided resulting in the deaths of 37 people and injuries of others.

The boat, owned by Hongkong Electric Co, sank in the accident, and the ferry was damaged, but made it to the Lamma pier. Crew members from both vessels were reportedly among those arrested.

Police Commissioner Andy Tsang is quoted in the report as stating, “We suspect that somebody did not fulfill their responsibility, that’s why we made the arrests… We do not rule out the possibility that further arrests will be made.”

The ferry is owned by Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Holdings.
