My spouse is not a drug dealer. He has a steady job. How can you blame him? Answers from Dallas drug crime attorney John Helms.

It is important to understand that arresting a person for drug possession or conspiracy to distribute drugs does not necessarily mean that the government believes the person has been a lifelong drug dealer.

A person can be charged with a federal drug felony even if they have only been involved in one or two drug deals or if they have only carried drugs from one person to another. In other words, individuals who are not full-time drug dealers can be charged with federal drug offenses. This is because it is illegal to just make a drug deal or carry drugs for someone even once.

The first question, of course, is whether the government can really prove that the accused of the crime is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. To answer that, I must study and evaluate the facts and the government’s evidence.
