US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Tuesday urged US allies to speed up disbursements to Ukraine.

“We call on our partners and allies to join us in swiftly paying off their existing obligations to Ukraine and doing more,” Yellen said as she received her Ukrainian counterpart Sergii Marchenko.

Yellen said faster and bigger aid would help Ukraine, which is repelling a brutal Russian invasion, maintain essential government services and “start building and recovering.”

Yellen stressed that the United States would begin “to provide the Ukrainian government with the $4.5 billion in budget support approved by Congress on Sept. 30 in the coming weeks.”

“We are committed to getting this funding to you as soon as possible because we know how important it is in supporting your valiant resistance to the illegal invasion of Russia,” she added.

The package was part of a larger $12.3 billion aid package for Ukraine included in a stopgap bill to avert a shutdown of federal services.
