The Ashley Michelle Project is a Utah-based 501C nonprofit that helps women make the transition to a stable life after drug addiction treatment. The organization is hosting its first annual softball tournament fundraiser on Saturday, October 22 at Barnes Park in Kaysville, Utah.

After watching her two daughters adjust to life after drug rehab, Kelly Wareham has made it her mission to help women in recovery gain the resources they need to thrive in life. Through her newly formed nonprofit, the Ashley Michelle Project (named after her two daughters), Kelly is raising funds through an Oct. 22 community softball tournament in Kaysville, Utah.

“Women often go into recovery with too many strikes,” Kelly said. “They don’t have a permanent home, so it’s difficult to have a steady job. If their children are taken from their care, they cannot get them back. Without support, it’s all too easy to slip into hopelessness and revert to substance abuse. Everyone wins when we help these women succeed.”

The softball tournament will be held at Barnes Park with 100% of proceeds benefiting women in recovery. Entry fee for participants is $350 per team with a three-game guarantee. Community members can purchase raffle tickets for generous prizes, and sponsors can donate $500 for recognition at the event.

Community donations enable Wareham to partner with local treatment centers and enroll women in their program on a referral basis. Her grooming begins with a complimentary makeover by Wareham’s daughter, Brooke, at Crazy Beautiful Hair Salon. With the guidance of Wareham’s daughter, Ashely, the women can then ‘shop’ donated clothing in a communal closet and receive life skills training. Ashley also helps raise funds to achieve Wareham’s ultimate goal: building a community of tiny homes on a large lot in Davis County where women can settle in safe, stable, and affordable housing.
