Why it matters: More than 6,500 people with criminal convictions for simple marijuana possession will be affected by the president’s move, according to an earlier report.
Biden also said he will ask the Attorney General and the Department of Health and Human Services to review federal law’s classification of marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug.
Musk commented on this in July prisoner swap with brittney griner, WNBA player jailed in Russia for importing marijuana, “Maybe release some people in jail for weed here too?”
The entrepreneur himself had to undergo random drug testing to prove he is not an addict after smoking marijuana Joe Rogans podcast in 2018. This was because smoking weed is still illegal under federal law, Musk said in a separate podcast in August.
Musk has often criticized Biden to the president not recognizing his two companies Tesla and SpaceX.
