As Elon Musk faces Twitter Inc. TWTR in court over his $44 billion acquisition bid, a report about a second whistleblower comes into play.
What happened: To Peter Zatko, A second Twitter whistleblower could testify when the case goes to court in about two weeks, the New York Post said in a Report, cite sources.
While Zatko’s allegations mostly focused on security vulnerabilities, the new whistleblower could reportedly be speaking out about an alleged internal study that shows Twitter’s bot problem is far more serious than the social media platform has publicly acknowledged.
At least about 30% of daily active Twitter users were spam accounts, the internal study found, the Post said. The new whistleblower also reportedly said that Twitter executives dismissed the report, stating, “We’ve always had a bot problem.”
Why it matters: Musk’s main premise for leaving Twitter was his disagreement over the number of bot accounts the social media platform publicly disclosed.
The alleged second whistleblower’s testimony could be a shot in the arm for the Tesla CEO if the report is true.
Musk will answer questions from Twitter’s attorneys under oath on Thursday and Friday before the lawsuit is pending a five-day trial beginning Oct. 17.
Price promotion: According to Twitter, Monday’s session closed up 2.97% at $42.54 Benzinga Pro data.
