WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Oct. 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Grain producers now have more time to request a final quality determination from the Canadian Grain Commission should a dispute arise over the grain grading of their Canadian Grain Commission-licensed primary elevator supplies.

Formerly known as Subject to Inspector’s Grade and Dockage, producers can now request that a sample of their grain shipment be sent to the Canadian Grain Commission for a final quality determination up to seven calendar days after the date of their grain shipment. This right is granted to grain producers who supply a regulated grain to a primary elevator licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission.

The Grains Commission of Canada introduced these changes to the Grains Regulations of Canada to promote fair transactions in Canada’s grain sector. These regulatory updates were made to reflect and keep pace with the current operational realities of grain handling and delivery in Canada.

The changes clarify how long samples must be stored and allow manufacturers and elevator operators more flexibility in deciding who stores delivery samples and where. Additionally, grain producers do not need to be present at the time of delivery to request a final quality determination.

“We are very excited to implement these enhancements to grain producers’ final quality determination. This key producer is now reflecting the realities of today’s grain sector and is responding to feedback received during the Canada Grain Act review.”
