Congressional Psychedelics Talks: Officials’ Comments for

during one House Ways & Means Committee Meeting where lawmakers discussed bills on access to health care for workers and families, Rep. Graf Blumenauer (D-OR) raised the therapeutic potential of psychedelics as alternatives to conventional medication for mental illness, as first reported by marijuana moment.

Referring to the committee discussion, the congressman said he was “encouraged by the spirit with which we move forward to be able to integrate a large number of reform areas” such as outpatient care, but also explained the need to “make further progress” in the search for nationwide alleviation of mental health disorders in the population, suggesting that psychedelics should be firmly included in the discussion of health care improvements.

Blumenauer is not the first to speak of the advantages of this form of therapy. Already in January 2022 he was co-author of a two partisans Letter call to the drug investigation Allow terminally ill patients access to psilocybin under the federal framework Right to Try (RTT) Lawsa move later supported by a bipartisan and bicameral congressional efforts Reaffirmation of RTT’s charter to allow these patients access to Schedule I drugs, including marijuana and psychedelics.

Other moves to help bring the psychedelics debate into consideration include recent spending legislation and approved amendments to a defense law requiring federal agencies to continue supporting research into the therapeutic potential of these substances.

Some of the recent adopters of progressive psychedelics reform are Democrats Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (DN.Y.), Rep. Count Blumenauer (D-OR) and Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and brian darling (D-HI)as well as GOP members Sense. Edge Paul (R-KY) and Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) and Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Nancy Mace (R-SC).
