On August 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) released an investigative alert regarding a multi-state outbreak E. coli infections. The notice reported that “37 people have been infected with the outbreak strain coli O157 were reported from 4 states: Indiana (1), Michigan (15), Ohio (19), and Pennsylvania (2)” and that “most of the sick reported eating romaine lettuce sandwiches at Wendy’s restaurants before falling ill.” The CDC further stated that “[b]Based on the information gathered to date, Wendy’s is taking the precautionary measure of removing romaine lettuce, which is used in sandwiches, from restaurants in this region.”

As a result of this news, Wendy’s stock price fell $0.81 per share, or 4.01%, to close at $19.39 per share on August 26, 2022.
