Trump gets litigation in Mar-a-Lago case: judge appoints special

Donald Trump’s The legal team received a boost Thursday after a federal judge rejected the US of the Ministry of Justice Motion to reopen review of documents seized from former President’s Florida home.

What happened: District Court Judge Aileen cannon said first in a 10-page decision written down in the New York Times that it denied the government’s request for partial residency, and also by a separate order, the appointment of a Senior District Judge Raymond Dearie as a special master in the case.

However, the court said Dearie must follow a “precise workflow” and the special master and affected parties are to prioritize classified documents.

Cannon, a Trump agent, directed Dearie to complete his review and classification of the materials by November 30, 2022.

Why it matters: had cannon stopped the DoJ review of the Mar-a-Lago documents earlier this month, prompting the department to do so inquiry Resumption of the criminal investigation into the documents marked as secret. The order, issued Thursday, was in response to that request.

Cannon reportedly addressed criticism for overemphasizing Trump’s position as a former president.

Cannon has allowed the DoJ to continue using the documents for a national security risk assessment and classification review, according to the report.

Trump praised Cannon on Truth Social, calling her “brilliant and courageous.” The social media platform is part of Trump media and technology group (TMTG), which is to go public through a merger Digital World Acquisition Corp. DWAC.
