MARLBOROUGH, Mass. and BERLIN and YOKNEAM ILIT, Israel, Sept. 12, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ReWalk Robotics, Ltd. RWLK (“ReWalk” or the “Company”), a leading manufacturer of robotic medical technology for people with lower extremity disabilities, announced today that the Federal Social Court has scheduled a hearing to review the decision whether an exoskeleton medical device is classified as should be used to directly or indirectly compensate for the lost function of people with spinal cord injuries or paraplegia. The hearing is scheduled for November 10, 2022.
The court’s decision will create a new national guideline for medical devices with exoskeletons and will apply nationwide to all those with statutory health insurance. The establishment of a legal classification of exoskeletons will provide guidance to both patients and insurance companies and create a reliable legal basis for the application process for the provision of exoskeletons.
“The numerous benefits patients experience from regaining the ability to stand and walk through the use of a ReWalk exoskeleton have made it clear that restoring walking function after spinal cord injury is a basic need,” said Larry Jasinski, CEO of ReWalk Robotics. “The German healthcare system has taken on a pioneering role in the introduction of exoskeletons for paraplegics. With the determination of a clear classification for exoskeletons as medical aids, the court wants to give payers and patients important, nationwide guidance when applying for care services and create a way to give all authorized users in Germany access to this innovative technology through an established offer process provide. We look forward to the upcoming decision.”
