The Ethereum ecosystem still has far more developers than rival networks, but they are catching up with faster growth rates.

According to the crypto research company Electric Capital, Ethereum competitors such as Polkadot, Solana, and Binance Smart Chain are growing faster in development activities Report On January 6.

According to reports, there are more than 4,000 active open source developers working on Ethereum every month-far more than the 680 working on the Bitcoin network. In all chains, the total number of monthly active developers measured exceeded 18,400, and the number of new developers submitted code in 2021 exceeded 34,000, breaking the record.

Collect measurement results by analyzing approximately 500,000 code repositories and 160 million code commits (changes or updates to the code). The report pointed out that Ethereum, Polkadot, Cosmos, Solana and Bitcoin are the five largest developer ecosystems overall.

According to reports, Polkadot has about 1,500 developers in total, while Cosmos and Solana each have about 1,000.

In terms of monthly developers, other active ecosystems include Cosmos, NEAR Launched a $800 million developer fund in October, Tezos, Polygon and Cardano, there are more than 250 active developers every month.

Although Ethereum still dominates — more than 20% of new Web3 developers have joined its ecosystem — competitors’ networks are growing faster.

“Polkadot, Solana, NEAR, BSC, Avalanche and Terra are all growing faster than Ethereum on similarities in their history.”

Growth of ecosystem development since first submission-Electric Capital

The report compares the average monthly active developers between December 2020 and December 2021 and points out that Solana has increased by 4.9 times, NEAR has increased by 4 times, and Polygon’s monthly developers have more than doubled. During 2021, the average monthly active developers of Cosmos increased by 70%, and BSC increased by 80%.

Although the development growth data of early projects is impressive, Ethereum is still the king. The ecosystem continues to retain the largest tool, dapp, and protocol network, which is 2.8 times larger than its closest competitor, Polkadot.

Solana, Avalanche, BSC, NEAR and Terra have become DeFi centers in the past year or so. Attract more developers as the adoption rate increasesAccording to reports, DeFi full-time monthly active contributors increased by 64%. Except for January, more than 500 new developers contributed code to DeFi projects every month last year.
