Everyone inside and outside the Metaverse world knows that land ownership is important, and acquiring a piece of land is a very traditional investment. Most people outside the Metaverse world don’t quite understand—or still don’t believe—why people want to be landowners in Metaverse, and what this virtual land ownership can actually bring them.

What can a small piece of land in Metaverse do?

What needs to be clear is that not all Metaverse games have the same popularity, and not all game developments are ready to be sold to investors. Sandbox is one of the leading Metaverse games, and the Alpha version gave me a very specific understanding of how Metaverse land ownership works. So I take the land ownership in this game as an example.

When I checked the land prices on OpenSea and ranked them from low to high, I could see that the current price of the smallest piece of land in The Sandbox ranged from $11,000 to $19,000. At the same time, large plots of land have been acquired by various brands and wealthy whales, and these landowners are likely to invest more money to make their plots attractive. So the question is: if you acquire the most basic and smallest land as a private investor, what can you do with it to make it valuable and even attractive?

For landowners who really plan to build an experience and not just use the land as an investment, the Alpha task provided by the sandbox can be a good demonstration of the potential of a small piece of land.

Not just size

In the Alpha mission of the sandbox, we played several small missions, each of which occupies about four lands in the sandbox world. I can’t help comparing my gaming experience with the “smaller missions” that take up 4 plots of land (such as Club XYZ and Edge of the Abyss) with the gaming experience of some “larger missions” consisting of 16 plots of land, such as the Fortress of Odrak And Shaya Sanctuary.

Do I find smaller tasks less attractive or less interesting than larger tasks? unnecessary. The enjoyment of an experience is not positively related to the size of the land, but is related to the story, rich details, multiple possibilities, music, sound effects, and other aspects of game design. Can a small plot of land produce 10 times the impact of 16 plots? Probably, yes.

What may also be overlooked is how many “floors” you can build on a piece of land. Take the Alpha mission on the edge of the abyss as an example. That mission took place in an abandoned industrial town that looked like a post-apocalyptic world, and it was built on the edge of a very deep abyss. The entire building structure is about six to seven stories high. When I entered the mission, I had to use ladders, snake paths and floating platforms to move up and down the entire vertical structure to reach all road signs. It’s hard to imagine that the edge of the abyss is built on only four plots, because—due to the vertical structure—the actual gaming experience contains more playable space than many other missions built on fairly large plots.

If the landlord does not have the execution ability or skills to create all the assets and game experience by himself, he can always choose to hire professional experience designers and asset creators to complete the work.

Possibility of hosting Metaverse events

Another very popular use of Metaverse Land is to create venues such as Internet cafes, NFT galleries, dance clubs or conference halls. All of these can be built on fairly small land.

For those who like The Sandbox Alpha, I believe in the iconic Concert and stage Deadmau5 and Snoop Dogg are really unforgettable. If these celebrity concerts help attract new players to experience the Alpha mission, I wouldn’t be surprised. In addition to the club experience and concerts, the NFT gallery is already very popular, and when you walk around in any major decentralized metaverse game, it is impossible not to bump into a few of them.

When it comes to the Metaverse Conference Hall, the main question is whether the existing games are technically ready to provide such an infrastructure to facilitate real-time, multi-person interaction and voice communication.

In The Sandbox Alpha, I haven’t considered hosting a meeting as an option. Several meetings have been held on other major Meta Festival platforms. Although the experience seems very basic, there are only audio and slide presentations by the speaker. The broadcast ability is there, but it needs further improvement.
