A study found that about 8.3% of South African Internet users surveyed have NFTs, while another 9.4% said they plan to buy such tokens in the future.

Twelfth highest NFT adoption rate

According to the survey results Newest The Finder online survey shows that of the 1,205 South African Internet users surveyed, approximately 8.3% own non-fungible tokens (NFT). These survey results are sufficient to make South Africa the country with the 12th highest NFT adoption rate in the world.

For Internet users who plan to purchase NFTs in the future, the survey found that 9.4% of South Africans surveyed plan to do so. When this is combined with the number of Internet users who already have NFTs, the NFT adoption rate in South Africa may soon rise to 17.8%. This number is higher than Vietnam (17%), which is currently ranked fifth in the world.

According to the survey results, the Philippines (32%) currently has the most NFT owners in the world, followed by Thailand (27%), Malaysia (24%) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (23%). Nigeria ranks sixth in the world and is the highest ranked African country, with 13.7% of surveyed users confirming that they have an NFT.

South African men hold more NFTs

At the same time, the survey results show that South African men are more likely to have an NFT than women. 10.5% of men said they have at least one NFT, compared with 6.3% of women. Finder data shows that this 4.2 percentage point gender gap is higher than the global average of 2.7%.

As expected, young South Africans dominate, with the youngest age group accounting for more than 10% of NFT owners in the country.

“In South Africa, people aged 18 to 24 are most likely to have NFT (11%). At the other end are people aged 55 to 64 (5.2%),” the survey explained.

Globally, only Thai and Venezuelan women buy more NFTs than men, while in another area, the UAE has the least number of women with NFTs.

Although many people expect the adoption rate of NFTs to increase globally, the survey found that Japan is the country where Internet users know the least about NFTs. About 90% of Japanese users said they don’t know what NFT is. Germany ranked second with 83%, followed by the United Kingdom, with 79% of people unsure.
