How can the cannabis industry be more sustainable? It’s a hot debate topic for many professionals in the field, and for good reason.

It’s hard not to get nervous about the future of the planet when the effects of global warming seem increasingly evident.

We can’t build time machines to change the damage humans have done to the environment over the years, but we can make an impact now.

Cannabis has long been said to have packaging problem, especially its unhealthy relationship with plastic.

Stringent packaging requirements by states often require multiple layers of non-recyclable single-use plastic to keep children safe.

If you’ve ever spent fifteen minutes tearing apart layer after layer of plastic to get to your food, you know how wasteful packaging can be.

Single-use plastics can only be used once and then thrown away, which quickly adds to a lot of waste. The cannabis industry and people in general are afraid of plastic.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before – plastic is bad.

but Bill Ludlow, President and CEO Kratiff Packaging, different views.

When he spoke at the Emerge Virtual Cannabis conference, he said that fear of plastic will only distract from the real problem, which is humans.

He believes that people have to Recycle.

“Studies show that 80 percent of littering is intentional and carried out by individuals, that’s you and me, that’s us, that’s the consumer,” Ludlow said. “We have to control, we have to be part of the solution. Should we ban plastic to protect ourselves from idiots? That’s not the answer.”

“We have to come together and we have to focus on how to keep plastic in the material cycle. You have the power, you are the consumer, and if we do it together, you can drive the market towards sustainability. Check your facts – be a hero , not haters,” Ludlow said.

CRATIV Packaging creates some of the most sustainable, child-resistant cannabis packaging in North America.

The company has been constantly, literally, thinking outside the box to create innovative, recyclable packaging for the cannabis industry.

Its new products further demonstrate its commitment to a green future.

The company recently announced its new USDA-certified BioPreferred packaging, which is designed and manufactured in North America using a blend of renewable plant-based materials.

By utilizing renewable bio-based materials, it eliminates the need for petroleum-based materials. The attractive CRATIV PB (plant based) packaging is available in black, white and natural colors.

it makes front patch, Edible and flower producers bring their products to market in a more sustainable and stylish way.

These plant-based products can now be ordered and meet national CFR and ISO child safety requirements, while maintaining USDA-BioPreferred certification and meeting FDA standards for food-grade products.

“‘CRATIV Earth’ is our mission and we consider it our responsibility to be environmentally friendly through our actions and products. Our motto is ‘Our Planet, Our Home, Our Responsibility’. We take our responsibility seriously , and continually source innovative materials and processes to reduce the plastic burden created by cannabis packaging,” Ludlow said. “Our interest is in working with our customers to drive and take action on environmentally-focused packaging, rather than simply talking about the ‘possible’ of this industry.”

In addition to their new botanical products, Crativ also announced their most recent partnership planted a tree Assist in the restoration and reforestation of natural areas affected by fires in the United States and Canada.

This partnership will raise awareness of the importance of ecosystem restoration and deliver wins for the environment and cannabis consumers.

“We’re always striving to provide our customers with viable alternatives to single-use and single-use plastic products, and innovation and sustainability are at the core of everything we do at Crativ Packaging,” said Ludlow.
