Erbach set two new Olympic records in Tokyo. He won Qatar’s sixth Olympic medal and second place in weightlifting.

Weightlifter Fares Elbakh broke two records in the Tokyo Olympics and became the first Olympic champion in Qatar’s history.

The 2019 World Silver Medalist took the lead in the men’s 96kg competition on Saturday, setting new records for clean and jerk (225kg) and total weightlifting (402kg).

Erbach, 23, said: “I am honored to win gold medals in these Olympics.”

Keydomar Vallenilla finished second for the Venezuelan team with a total score of 387 kg, although his last weightlift was ruled out of the barbell before he got the signal.

Vallenilla lifted the same total result as the third-ranked Georgia player Anton Pliesnoi, but ranked higher than Pliesnoi because he did his best clean and jerk early in the game.

‘face the challenge’

After winning the Saif Asaad 105kg bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Erbach won Qatar’s sixth Olympic medal and the second enumerated heavy medal.

“In cleaning, we went very well. In the last period, we studied clean and jerk. We have more leeway in cleaning, which is why we need the first or second attempt to be a winner, especially It’s because my opponent is very good at squatting,” Erbach said after winning.

“That’s why we have to get close in the clean and jerk, so the first attempt was a gold medal, even the second. Thank God, it solved it for us. It’s a bit of a gamble, but it’s worth it. We stepped forward to meet the challenge.”

Qatar sent its athletes to the Los Angeles Olympic Games for the first time in 1984.

Eight years later, he won his first medal in Barcelona, ??when track and field athlete Muhammad Suleiman won the bronze medal in the 1500m race.

At the end of next year, Qatar will become the host of the World Cup.
