San Diego-The new 30th Street Bike Path in North Park is now complete after nearly a year of delays caused by the pandemic.

The driveway is installed on both sides of the street and includes a plastic column that acts as a physical barrier between the rider and the vehicle. According to BIKESD, this is a welcome sign for many people, especially since this year 12 riders in the area were killed when they collided with a vehicle while riding on the street.

“Traffic is away from the lane, so you can go straight down,” said Bri Saldana, who is crossing 30day Going to the streets for the first time on Friday.

Alex Limon, a resident of North Park, only uses his electric bicycle as a means of transportation. He said he would rather install the bike elsewhere.

“I think this is a good step, but I don’t think it will necessarily serve areas that really need it,” Limon said, adding, “I think the university (avenue) is more crowded (has) more traffic. “

But the new bicycle lanes are not without some resistance from regional companies. Some businesses along 30th Street disagree with the idea of ??reducing the number of available parking spaces to create new bike lanes.

“San Diego is a driving city,” Limon said. “I think any type of business will have some resistance to this development because it reduces parking spaces.”

The bike advocates of BIKESD promoted 30day Streets will be created so that riders can feel safer in North Park.
