Chula Vista, California-This is the first day of school for students from two school districts in the San Diego area.

Both Chula Vista Elementary School District and Sweetwater Union High School District welcome students back to school on Wednesday.

CVESD stated that all students in its 46 schools will resume full-time face-to-face learning for the first time in 16 months, and Sweetwater stated that many of their 36,000 students in 24 junior high and high school campuses will also return Learning for the first time since March 13, 2020.

Sweetwater was part of a pilot project in collaboration with San Diego State University this summer, which distributed 6,000 COVID-19 home test kits to a middle school. The plan is to determine whether self-testing of students’ high-risk family members will help ensure school safety.

SUHSD also reminded families that all students will receive free lunch in the 2021-2022 school year due to the extension of the USDA for students.
