Law enforcement officials said on Monday that a 50-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware was killed by a car while riding a bicycle in Stone Harbor last Saturday morning.

Police said the fatal accident occurred near the intersection of 87th Street and First Avenue in Jersey Shore Town at around 9:26 am on Saturday.

An 18-year-old woman from Blue Bell in Montgomery County drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee north on First Avenue, while a cyclist drove east on the 100th block of 87th Street. The police said the fatal crash occurred when the driver of the jeep was driving west into 87th Street.

Police said the driver stopped immediately after hitting the cyclist and called emergency rescuers to the scene. The cyclist was taken by a medical helicopter to the Atlantif Care Regional Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries.
