(NEXSTAR)-Just in time for National Ice Cream Day on July 18, Instacart claims to have scoops on the country’s most popular ice cream flavors.

Instacart uses data from U.S. online grocery orders to determine the most purchased flavors in each state — or, more specifically, the most purchased flavors in each state relative to the national average. In other words, technically, the results do not reflect the most popular flavors in each state, but rather the flavors preferred by residents in other parts of the country.

It is also worth mentioning that Instacart completely excludes vanilla because it is the most purchased flavor in each state.

The survey results show that as many as 12 states prefer Moose Tracks (i.e. vanilla ice cream with chunks of peanut butter cups and fudge), making it the most popular flavor in the Instacart study. The runners-up included Rock Road, coffee, green tea and birthday cake flavored ice cream, each of which received the highest scores in the five states.

At the same time, the preference for ice cream in the three states is unique: Delaware buys more than the national average for cherry ice cream; Pennsylvania, which likes delicious mint flake cones; and New Mexico, which cannot get enough chocolate ice cream and chocolate sheet.

You can find the complete results and a more specific understanding of our country’s ice cream habits On Instacart’s blogHowever, what is not found on the blog is Instacart’s puzzling reason for including “Rainbow Sherbet” in its ice cream list, and as we all know, sherbet is adjacent to ice cream at best.
