Carmel Valley SR-56 crashed in the wrong direction, killing one person

Carmel Valley (CNS)-The California Highway Patrol said that on Saturday, a passenger crashed head-on on Interstate 56, and a driver in the wrong direction was killed.

According to Salvador Castro, Public Information Officer of the Center for Health Protection, a silver Honda Civic and a blue Mazda CX-5 happened on the Carmel Country Road at around 1:44 on Saturday morning. East on the eastbound line of SR 56.

Castro said that a Honda car driven by a 22-year-old man from San Marcos took the wrong path and was driving west on SR 56.

The official said a Honda passenger was killed in the accident. The Mazda driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The Honda driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The Center for Health Protection stated that the eastbound expressway was closed due to accident investigation but reopened at around 6:10 in the morning.
