Elsa is the first hurricane of the Atlantic season
Elsa intensified into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season on Friday as it blew roofs, broke trees, and destroyed crops in the eastern Caribbean.
Officials closed schools, businesses and airports.
The Category 1 storm is the first hurricane to hit Barbados in more than 60 years.
It caused heavy rain and strong winds on the island, and then Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who are trying to recover from the recent large-scale volcanic eruption.
