After a family member in London, Ontario was killed in a hit and run, the man faces charges of murder and terrorism and is expected to appear in court again this morning briefly.

20-year-old Nathaniel Veltman (Nathaniel Veltman) faces four first-degree murder charges, one attempted murder charge and related terrorism charges.

On June 6, five family members were knocked down by a black truck. 46-year-old Salman Afzaal, his 44-year-old wife Madiha Salman, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and 74-year-old Salman’s mother Talat Afzaal were killed. The youngest member of the family survived. The 9-year-old has since been discharged from the hospital and is being taken care of by the extended family.

Veltman was arrested not far from the crash site.

Veltman is expected to appear in the Ontario High Court via a video link from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Center. At his last hearing, the court heard that he was negotiating with Toronto lawyer Christopher Hicks.

Hicks told CBC News that he would not speak to the media until he was formally hired.

Federal prosecutors have escalated Veltman’s allegations to include terrorism. The police and prosecutors claimed that hit and run was an act of anti-Muslim hatred.

According to the Criminal Law, when the prosecutor believes that the crime is for political, religious or ideological purposes, for the purpose of intimidating the public or part of the public, they can make terrorist charges.

Veltman has not yet held a bail hearing or contested. He said he will need to apply for legal aid.

On June 12, at the funeral of the Afzaal family in London, Ontario, people saw the flag-wrapped coffin outside the Islamic Center in southwestern Ontario. The police said the family was killed in a hate-motivated attack. (Carlos Osorio/Reuters)
