As demand weakened, the county phased out some COVID-19 vaccination sites

San Diego (CNS)-Officials said on Friday that due to the sharp drop in demand for the COVID-19 vaccine, San Diego will phase out some of its county-level vaccination sites.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said that although vaccination sites in some counties have been closed or will be closed at the end of this month, people who have not been vaccinated still have options.

Wooten said that, as expected, “demand for the COVID-19 vaccine has dropped significantly.” “Throughout the pandemic, the county has focused on fairness and has been in contact with communities and people who are hesitant about vaccines.”

“The more people get vaccinated, the more likely we are to end the pandemic locally,” Wu Teng said.

The vaccine continues to be available in more than 400 locations, including doctors’ offices, pharmacies, and county clinics throughout the region.

According to county officials, some vaccination sites will continue to extend working hours to make it easier for San Diego to get immunizations. They said they have reached the federal goal of vaccinating nearly 1.97 million people 12 years of age and older with at least one dose. More than 2.16 million San Diego people have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine, while more than 1.83 million people have been fully vaccinated.

Local municipalities, health champions, the University of California San Diego Health Center, the San Diego American Indian Health Center, and the San Diego Black Nurses Association will handle mobile vaccination requests.
