Losing a dog can be stressful for pet owners, but they usually have a high recovery rate. A 2012 study found that An estimated 86-97% of lost dogs in the United States Finally found the way home. According to the same study, these odds are higher than cats, who only go home 63-84% of the time in the United States. If cats eventually enter the shelter, they are less likely to return to their owners, in part because they are not as often labeled or implanted with microchips as dogs. The shelter also has more restrictions on stray cats.
