San Diego (CNS)-Firefighters in East County continued to fight the 425-acre vegetation fire in Canebreak Canyon on Sunday.

Cal Fire San Diego stated that the blaze, known as a land fire, was contained 25% of the time at 2:15 pm, because workers on the ground worked overnight and continued to build the containment line on Sunday morning.

The fire started at 9:15 am on Saturday and rapidly expanded from 10 acres to 343 acres by 1:20 pm

Officials said ground resources must be airlifted to remote areas by helicopter on Saturday.

The fire occurred west of County Road S-2 and Canebrake Canyon Road. It is close to a small desert community east of Laguna Mountain and south of Borrego Springs.
