The first couple kept a German Shepherd for 13 years and he was a regular member of the White House.

U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the larger of the two dogs in the family had died peacefully at home. The German Shepherd is 13 years old.

Major has made headlines in the past for his bad behavior. In November last year, the then president-elect tripped over a young dog while playing, and Major caused Biden’s foot injury.

Major and Champ were once brought back to Delaware. Major was trained after a young dog had two separate bites in the White House and an unknown dog appeared to shit in the White House corridor.

In recent months, Champ’s gray fur and slow gait indicate his age, but he is usually a calmer presence.

The Bidens are expected to bring a cat to the White House to reunite with their family soon.
