David Screech has selected his seat and entered his credit card information Springsteen on Broadway When he noticed the COVID-19 vaccine request, his vote: Two doses of his AstraZeneca-Oxford medicine were not enough to be admitted to the hospital.

Screech, the mayor of View Royal in British Columbia and a fan of Springsteen for 40 years, received his second dose of AstraZeneca last week, but the Jujamcyn Theater website stated that it only allows guests to “fully vaccinate FDA-approved vaccines.” ——Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson.

When Screech contacted them directly to ask about their requirements, the New York venue remained firm, turning his expectations of the performance into disappointment. Although he is “very grateful” for having two effective vaccines, Screech said he has some reservations about AstraZeneca, and Broadway’s neglect “of course adds to this.”

“Obviously, our health is far more important than being able to participate in performances or concerts. But on the other hand, performances and concerts have always been an important part of my life,” Screech said.

“In the foreseeable future, the idea of ??not being able to see them because they may have been vaccinated with the wrong vaccine is a bit disappointing.”

There are also vaccine restrictions for live performance recordings

Springsteen on Broadway It’s not the only attraction in New York City that allows guests to comply with strict vaccination regulations.

Bruce Springsteen performed here in November 2016 and will return to Broadway this summer to perform his solo performance “Springsteen on Broadway” in a limited edition. Live recording of TV shows, including Saturday night live with Stephen Colbert Evening Show It also snubs the AstraZeneca dosage in the rules listed on its website, which say they are “acting in accordance with the instructions of the State of New York.”

The New York Islanders are currently in the NHL playoff series with the Tampa Bay Chargers, and it seems that they do not have the same restrictions. Although the team’s website says that fans need to be vaccinated “in accordance with New York State guidelines,” the arena also has “unvaccinated parts.”

The offices of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the New York State Department of Health and Jujamcyn Theater did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Dr. Zain Chagla, an infectious disease doctor in Hamilton, Ontario, is not surprised that the agency has begun issuing vaccine passports. But preventing AstraZeneca recipients from participating in Springsteen’s show seemed particularly cruel.

“If you can do something more painful to Gen X, that’s it,” Chagla said with a smile.

Chagla said that if other countries start to formulate rules based on their own authorized vaccines, the potential vaccine demand for travelers may become more difficult.

‘Arbitrary line’

He said that vaccine nationalism may lead some people to insist that their licensed products are the “gold standard”, and pointed out that Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca use the same viral vector technology, but the effect in clinical trials is slightly less.

“According to the FDA approval, this is just a very random line. [without] Recognizing that AstraZeneca has been approved by many other healthcare organizations around the world,” Chagra said.

“Private companies have the right to do what they want, but at the same time, we need to have a broader discussion about what is considered a fully immunized person and which vaccines to use.”

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, noted on Thursday that “we are in the early stages of resuming travel.” She urged Canadians to carefully review the requirements of other countries and prepare for changes to the rules.

Tan said that global discussions can help the world “to the point where we can accept each other’s data…and find a way forward that makes life easier and travelers are supported if they are also vaccinated.”

Chagla said that because of the widespread use of jabs in Europe, AstraZeneca recipients in Canada may not face the same problems, but he expects more US states to adopt FDA-approved vaccine requirements.

He said that for some AstraZeneca recipients who plan to travel south after the border is reopened, this may mean more uncertainty and insult. Approximately 2 million Canadians have received AstraZeneca injections.

Chagla called on world leaders to establish a “benchmark” of potential vaccine demand and to give people confidence in their vaccines.

“You really want people to feel that they have made the right decision, that they will not be discriminated against and that they will get everything that the vaccinated person deserves,” he said.

‘A sense of injustice’

Andria Bianchi, a bioethicist and assistant professor at the University of Toronto’s School of Public Health, wants to know the rationale of the Broadway show vaccine regulations.

If the goal is to ensure that no COVID-19 infected person enters the building, then strictly relying on the FDA-authorized vaccine passport is not the only way to achieve this goal.

“I hope that any place will be well thought out when formulating policies or implementing restrictions, and explore all possible options,” Bianchi said.

“I think many AstraZeneca recipients will feel frustrated and may feel unfair.”

Screech said he hoped Springsteen on Broadway The rules will change to reflect that AstraZeneca provides reliable protection against COVID-19.

“But there will be disappointments, and a little worried about what it means [other] The American stadium of the future. “
