At around 5:30 on Friday morning, the police arrested Wideman. In a video statement posted on Twitter, OPP said that the police officer went to a house in Prince Edward County after receiving community information.

OPP spokesperson Sergeant said: “After entering, they were shot from inside the house.” Kerry Schmidt said in the video.

“The police officers entered the containment location around the house, and our OPP crisis negotiator was able to get in touch with the two residents in the house.”

After long negotiations, OPP arrested two men, including Wildman, who is currently being sent to Winnipeg. OPP stated that another man identified as an associate of Wildman was being questioned.

There were no reports of injuries.

At a press conference on Friday morning, the Royal Mounted Police of Manitoba stated that Wildman was accused of unsafe transportation of guns and possession of prohibited equipment without a license. Since June 12, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has been looking for the 34-year-old Whiteman. Police said he was found on Wednesday in Manitoba, not far from the Ontario border, driving a rented gray 2020 Chevy Equinox driving east on Highway 44.

Police said that on June 11, someone saw Wildman in the Lowe’s store on Panet Road in Winnipeg. After leaving the store, he took a taxi to James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, where the police said he rented Equinox.

“As the investigation progresses and more evidence is collected, the risks to public safety become more and more obvious,” Koppang said.

“As the risk assessment increases, when this hunt begins, the public alert also increases.”

Abandoned victim vehicle found in Manitoba

The police announced on June 12 that after they discovered Whiteman’s abandoned vehicle in East Kildonan, Winnipeg, they believed that Whiteman was an interested person in Joseph’s investigation. Inside, they found police tactical equipment, guns, Police patches and other items similar to police uniforms.

The police listed Whiteman as a homicide suspect on June 14.

Joseph’s body has not been found, but the RCMP stated that based on the evidence they found, they are sure he is dead. His 1997 Ford Ranger was abandoned in a rural area east of Highway 44 in Manitoba and was seen for the last time.

Earlier this week, the police said they were still trying to determine the relationship between Wildman and Joseph.

Koppang said the search for Joseph’s body in Wildman’s property and other areas continues, although officials are not currently searching in Ontario.

In response to a question about why the police did not activate the emergency alert system during the search, Koppang stated that they did not have enough specific information to justify the use of the system.

“During the investigation, we never had the necessary understanding of the specific risk posed by Mr. Wideman, the location of the risk, or the specific target of the risk,” he said.

“Without this, we will only increase fear, and there is no possibility of mitigating this risk.”
