After a fruitful college career at Auburn University, Johnson was selected by the Lions in the second round. His career started quickly, but in the next two seasons, his average pass per pass The ball yards are all declining. A sprained left knee caused him to miss six games in 2018, and a torn meniscus caused him to miss eight games in 2019.

Johnson wore a bulky knee pad in 2020, and he said he plans to continue wearing it for the rest of his career for peace of mind. He added that this does not restrict his running.

As you can see below, he only dribbled the ball 52 times last season.

Kryon Johnson hurry code YPC TD
2018 (10 games) 118 641 5.4 3
2019 (8 games) 113 403 3.6 3
2020 (16 games) 52 181 3.5 2

He also has 61 career catches for 527 yards (8.6 YPR) and 3 TDs.

We have broken down all Johnson’s passes and goals for 2020, which you can watch here:

This is what I saw from his 2020 season:

explosive force: Johnson’s long sprint in 2020 is 14 yards. In 2019, it is 20 yards. As you can see in the video above, he is not a big game threat. Determine if removing the extra year from his torn meniscus will help him regain some juice.

Steal ability: As you can see in the video above, Johnson did not break many tackles in 2020. You can count with one hand. If the defender touches, Johnson almost always falls. Having said that, he did run some power, because a few times he ran past defenders as soon as he was motivated. He rarely stands up through contact.

In the case of short yards (1-3 yards remaining), Johnson has 10 passes for 25 yards, 2 touchdowns and 7 first strikes, so he is very effective in this role.

receive: His hands are not very good. There are at least two drops in the above video. If you are very critical of the score, you may add a few more drops.

He is good at camouflage Screening, but once he has the ball in his hands, the Lions set the screen well many times, with the defensive player in front and Johnson leaving the meat on the bone.

He is not someone who will line up in the whole formation and play a role in the passing game like a slot receiver. He is mainly a person who checks or screen games.

Pass protection: This is Johnson’s main attraction, his pass protection ability is his best chance to make the list. ProFootballFocus ranks him as the second best running back in 2020 NFL pass protection, second only to Nick Chubb. They also allowed him to make 65 passes to protect steals, so this is not because the sample size is small, one might suspect a guard who has only 50 passes this season. The Lions use him heavily in passing professional roles.

I watched his three games from the perspective of pass protection, and he was really good in this regard. Here is an example:

Overview

Johnson is a risk-free supplement. He will count $1,366,869 in the 2021 cap and will not be punished for his release. The meniscus tear in 2019 – and Johnson’s subsequent race movie as a runner in 2020 – is an area to watch, but given his age (he will turn 24 later this month) and low Mileage (only 283 professional carry). It is not common for the Eagles to get such a waiver, because it is not common for them to finish 4-11-1 and rank sixth in the waiver.

At least, I believe he has more pass protection and short-range guards than Jordan Howard offers.
