If the 48-year-old player fails to coach on Friday, this will be the second time Montreal has missed the playoffs.

During the playoff bubble in Toronto last season, Claude Julian was rushed to the hospital and installed a stent in the coronary arteries. Associate coach Kirk Muller filled Julian’s role for the remainder of the playoffs.
