San Diego (CNS)-San Diego County health officials said the Tijuana Marsh coastline was closed on Sunday due to sewage pollution.

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality stated that the closure affected the shorelines of the Tijuanaslau National Wildlife Refuge and Border Wilderness State Park.

The closed area includes all beaches from the international border to the southern end of Coastal Avenue.

Officials say ocean currents are transferring sewage pollution northward to the United States, and water samples exceed state sanitary standards.

The health agency said the closure sign will remain unchanged until seawater sampling reaches state health standards for recreational use.
