KEARNY MESA-The U.S. Veterans Post Office 460 in Kearny Mesa is named after U.S. Navy pilot Albert J. Hickman. The pilot sacrificed hundreds of lives when the plane malfunctioned in 1959.
After 460, commander Bryan Trum (Bryan Trum) said that the pilot Hickman made the final sacrifice: “The plane crashed and there was a school yard full of children. He landed it on the ground and saved the children. .”
The Hickman pilot lost control when he returned to Miramar’s hometown when he was only 21 years old.
Hickman realized that he was going to Hawthorne Elementary School in Claremont, so he decided to turn the plane away.
“If he is released on bail, he doesn’t know what will happen to this plane, but he is a hero,” Trump said.
According to Post 460, Hickman was too close to the ground to eject and was killed in a crash, saving hundreds of lives.
“When we dedicated ourselves to Mount Soledad, one of the little girls-that was a little girl on the playground, paid tribute to him,” Trump said.
The Hickman Elementary in Mira Mesa was named after the pilot and stated on its website: “Our school remembers and honors his sacrifice and strives to continue his hero Cultural heritage.”
Hickman pilot crashed on December 4day 1959; An airplane is in the guard box.
Trum said: “The team of aircraft archaeologists said that it must be part of the plane, but they found that part of the cockpit.”
The Hickman pilot won the highest non-combat decoration award “Navy and Marine Corps” for his heroism.
On this Memorial Day weekend, Trump hopes that the Americans will pay tribute to the fallen heroes.
Trum said: “I just want you to consider all the people who have never returned home, and then think about it, freedom is not freedom.”
