SANTIAGO (CNS)-Sheriff officials said on Monday that a prisoner died at the San Diego Central Prison this weekend.

According to a statement from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, 35-year-old Leicester Daniel Marokun was found unresponsive in his cell at around 4pm on Sunday.

The department stated that the sheriff’s deputy and prison medical staff responded before the fire department personnel took over, but Marroquin was eventually pronounced dead in the prison.

The officials did not disclose the suspected cause of death, but the department said “no evidence of foul play was found.” The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Officials said that Marroquin was alone in a cell at the time.

He was initially registered and imprisoned by the San Diego Police Department on December 18.
