Once won the Olympic wrestling gold medalist Sushil Kumar (Sushil Kumar) for the murder of a former national youth wrestling champion, Arrested Held by the Delhi Police in New Delhi, the capital of India.

The 37-year-old man has been on the run since the 23-year-old Sagar Dhankhar was beaten to death on May 4.

Police said on Tuesday, a court in Delhi rejected his lawyer’s offer to stop him from being arrested, while Kumar appeared in the city court on Sunday.

According to the police, Kumar also won a world championship and a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games when the former junior national champion Dhankad was beaten to death at the Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi.

The police conducted a raid in the Delhi area and offered a reward of $1,350, leading to the arrest of Kumar. Kumar won a silver medal in freestyle wrestling at the 2012 London Olympics four years ago and a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Senior police officer Guriqbal Singh Sidhu told the Indian media on Tuesday: “We have recorded all the victims’ statements and they have all filed charges against Sushil Kumar. .”

Kumar’s lawyer filed a lawsuit in court on Tuesday, demanding pre-bail, but was refused due to the seriousness of the allegations.

One day after the fighting, Dhankad, the son of the Delhi police, died of injuries. The police said that another wrestler was being treated and the suspected assailant was identified.

Only a few weeks from the original Tokyo Olympics, the Indian Wrestling Federation stated that the sport has damaged the sport’s reputation.

WFI Secretary Vinod Tomar told reporters: “I must say that the image of Indian wrestling has been seriously injured.”

Tomar said that wrestling has been trying to improve its image to counter the idea that “wrestlers…are just a bunch of fools.”

This case is the second wrestling scandal in India in months.

A coach named Sukhwinder Mor is awaiting trial for the murder of five people in February, including a rival coach.

Kumar was the first Indian to win two Olympic medals and the first Indian to win a wrestling medal in fifty years.

His success inspired a generation of Indian wrestlers, including Yogeshwar Dutt and Phogat sisters.

Although Kumar is still active in the sport, he is not eligible to participate in the Tokyo Olympics where India hopes to win four medals.
