Bahrain bans entry into uninhabited public places

Bahrain said on Thursday that most people will be restricted from entering public places only after coronavirus cases in the Gulf of Mexico hit a record high. After the causeway was reopened this week, tourists from Saudi Arabia flooded in.

Deputy Health Minister Waleed Al Manea attributed the spike to large gatherings at home and the increase in testing during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays.

From May 21 onwards, only people over 18 years old, except supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and hospitals, who have completed 14 days after the second vaccination or who have recovered from the virus can enter the commercial center.

These restrictions apply to shopping malls, restaurants, salons, cinemas, and offices that provide government services, and are valid until June 3.

The island nation of 1.7 million people recorded 2,354 new Covid-19 infections and 8 deaths on Wednesday, bringing its total to 206,878 cases, including 773 deaths. On May 15, the authorities recorded about 1,300 infections.
