The new partnership between the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) will use advanced ballistic technology to quickly process crime scenes and potentially speed up the timetable for shooting investigations.

The department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office jointly announced this cooperation and provided the city with a National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) truck with the assistance of ATF personnel.

“The existence of the NIBIN van in Philadelphia is a very important and valuable tool in our toolbox,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer Abiter Williams. “This will help expedite the testing and processing of evidence in gun violence investigations.
