There’s Danger Lurking At The Amusement Park Says PA & NJ Personal Injury Lawyer

When summer approaches, people invariably start hitting the amusement parks. The United States has more roller coasters than any other country in the world. Unfortunately, it also sees a higher number of amusement park injuries each year, reports Rand Spear the accident lawyer based in Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Universal Orlando Settles Lawsuit on Coaster Known for Causing Injuries

When most people go to an amusement park — especially a large, popular one — they expect safety to be a top priority. People are drawn to roller coasters and similar rides because of the thrill of perceived danger, but no one really expects the cars to fly off the track, or for an operator to miss an important safety check.

However, amusement park injuries happen more often than most people realize. For example, Universal Orlando settled a lawsuit in April 2017 that stemmed from a 2016 injury involving a 10-year-old boy who injured his leg on the park’s popular Incredible Hulk Coaster. The boy’s lawyer said his injury was permanent.

Since 2003, seven other people have been injured on the same roller coaster, with one woman suffering a heart attack on the ride. Tragically, she died four days later. Other individuals ranging in age from 18 to 59 have experienced chest pain, dizziness, seizures, and loss of consciousness on the coaster.

Philadelphia Personal Injury Lawyer Talks About the Seriousness of Amusement Park Injuries

Sadly, each year and each warm weather season brings stories of people getting hurt and even killed on amusement park rides. A USA Today report provides a list of recent amusement park tragedies that have left people with serious debilitating injuries. In some cases, young people and adults have even been killed while riding a roller coaster or other ride.

In a 2013 case, a woman fell to her death from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas. According to family members who were with her on the ride, she asked a ride operator to check her lap belt, as she worried it wasn’t fastened properly. In 2016, three girls fell 35 to 40 feet when the Ferris wheel basket they were riding in tipped over.

Personal injury lawyer Rand Spear explains, “In many amusement park accidents investigations reveal that park owners or ride operators acted negligently, causing an injury to occur. If you’re ever in a situation in which you don’t feel safe on a ride, demand to be let off the ride before it starts moving. Your safety it too important to leave to chance.”
