Fort Worth, TX – A child who was seriously injured in a recent Fort Worth car crash that killed an elderly woman has succumbed to her injuries. Media reports say that the young girl passed away hours after the accident after being taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center.

“A 6-year-old girl died at a local hospital Monday night after she was injured in a wreck on West Loop 820 that killed an elderly woman riding next to her. London Pena of Fort Worth died at 9:40 p.m. Monday at Cook Children’s Medical Center, a few hours after the crash, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

The child was riding in the back seat of the vehicle along with her great grandmother when the car hit a pipe in the middle of the road. The incident led to the vehicle becoming disabled in the middle of the highway. An SUV subsequently rear-ended the car.

“The little girl’s mother told FOX 4 the family was heading home and hit a pipe in the road. It caused them to stop in the middle of the highway. London and her great grandmother took the brunt of the impact because they were sitting in the back seat. Two other adults in their car suffered minor injuries, but the driver of the SUV was not hurt.”
