Oakland – In what some are calling a “bizarre” ruling, a judge has ordered three children to go to a juvenile detention facility after they refused to meet with and build a relationship with their father. According to a Yahoo! Parenting report, Oakland County Circuit Judge Lisa Gorcyca delivered the mandate during a hearing regarding supervised parenting time with their father last month.

Maya Eibschitz-Tsimhoni, the mother of the children, who are 9, 10, and 15 years old, said of witnessing them be sentenced to juvenile detention up to the age of 18, “I felt like I was watching them be executed… No matter how bad the divorce gets, I think the court should not punish the kids for that.”

The kids were sent to Children’s Village’s juvenile detention center after being found by the judge to be in contempt of court.

Attorney Henry Gornbein, who has provided representation for Eibschitz-Tsimhoni during a lengthy divorce and custody battle with her former husband says of the case, “I’ve seen cases where you might threaten or sentence a parent for refusing to comply with a judge’s order, but I’ve never heard of a case where children themselves were incarcerated. This is bizarre.”
