Crockett, Texas – Four people have drowned in a canoeing accident in East Texas authorities say. According to an Associated Press report, the victims have been identified as “49-year-old Antonio Gutierrez; 47-year-old Amy Mendez; 6-year-old Sebastian Chavez; and Juan Cantu, whose exact age was not disclosed.”

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife spokesman Steve Lightfoot a search for the victims was prompted by an employee of the Crockett Family Resort who reported that the four people had not returned a canoe that had been rented at a scheduled deadline.

Searchers pulled the bodies of three of the victims from Houston County Lake on Sunday. The body of the fourth individual was recovered on Monday. The individuals had been attending a family gathering in the area.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the individual’s deaths. Foul play is reportedly not suspected in the case.
