Washington – An Iraq war veteran has been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of three relatives. The man, Roy H. Murry, 30, was recently charged with three counts of premeditated first-degree murder with aggravating circumstances over the deaths of the mother, stepfather, and brother of his estranged wife.

Amanda Murry told investigators that her estranged husband blamed her family for the marital problems the couple were having. She also stated that he suffered from post-traumatic stress following his service in Iraq, court documents state.

Spokane County prosecutor Larry Haskell  said following a hearing that in accordance with the charges Murry could face the death penalty if convicted.

The bodies of the victims were found with gunshot wounds on the family’s property near Chattaroy. The home had been set on fire.

Court documents also say that a .22-caliber pistol was recovered in Roy Murry's car with an empty magazine.

Murry is set to appear in court again on June 29.
