Philippines – Authorities have arrested a British man living in the Philippines for alleged child sex offenses committed in the United Kingdom. Reports say the man, Douglas Michael Slade, 74, had been living in the island country for 10 years as a permanent resident.

The Associated Press reports that immigration agents arrested Slade on charges linked to the molestation of a 14-year-old boy. He denies the allegations.

Bureau of Immigration and Deportation spokeswoman Elaine Tan also says that Slade had been arrested in Angeles City in multiple child abuse and child pornography cases, but each  charge was dismissed. According to a report by the immigration bureau he lived in close proximity to a school in the city “making it easy for him to lure children to his home.” He was accused of paying young boys to pose nude and engage in sex acts.

Slade was being held at the time of the report at an immigration detention center pending the outcome of deportation proceedings.

Immigration chief Siegfred Mison said in a statement, “The wellbeing of our children is considered the utmost interest of the State. We will not allow any such corruption of our youth to happen.”
