Dallas, Texas  – A Mesquite man was arrested after being accused of lying about his pledge of allegiance to a leader of the extremist group ISIS. Fox 4 News reports the man, 37-year-old Bilal Abood, allegedly pledged allegiance to group Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the summer of last year. Abood, who was born in Iraq, is a naturalized U.S. citizen who came to the United States in 2009.

A search warrant claims Abood had been viewing ISIS related brutalities online while at his apartment in Mesquite. Some of the videos were reportedly of beheadings. He is also accused of posting and retweeting information about al-Baghdadi on the social network Twitter.

Authorities say Abood told investigators that he had not provided financial support to any terrorists group including ISIS. His girlfriend stated to FOX 4 of the allegations against him, “I think it’s B.S…I think it’s a bunch of craziness because of the fact that he didn’t lie to no one. He told the truth.”

If convicted of charges against him, Abood could face up to 8 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
