Colorado – A teenage girl who was reported missing in Grand Junction in December before her remains were later found in a suitcase reportedly died of a drug overdose. As reported by Reuters, the information was revealed by the local coroner’s office on Tuesday.

Relatives who reported 18-year-old Kelly Mae Myers missing suggested she may have been attempting to hitchhike to Salt Lake City to visit friends.

Authorities believe the teenager’s body was taken to the Cactus Creek area of Colorado after she died at a Utah hotel.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office in Colorado released brief statement saying, “The cause of death is mixed drug intoxication and manner of death is undetermined at this time.”

Two people have been named as people of interest in Myers’ death, Raymond Cordova, 47, and Eduardo Nasario Delacruz, 30. According to online jail records both men remained in custody in Mesa County on unrelated charges at the time of the report.

The coroner’s office did not release any additional information citing they would not at this time due to the nature of the investigation.
