Boston – A friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been convicted on obstruction charges. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Azamat Tazhayakov was found guilty on Monday by a federal jury after being charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy in connection with an alleged cover up following the attack.

Tazhayakov and another friend were accused of removing incriminating items from Tsarnaev’s dorm room. The jury convicted Tazhayakov on both charges despite an acknowledgement by prosecutors that the other friend, Dias Kadyrbayev, was the one who threw the backpack in the trash.

Many are now speculating whether any of the others facing charges in connection with the attack have any chance of acquittal following the conviction of Tazhayakov.

Attorney Nicholas Wooldridge is quoted as stating of the case, “If Azamat had a difficult time here, everybody else is going to have a worse time because Azamat had the best facts.”
