Eight injured after car jumps onto New York sidewalk

New York – Eight people were injured after a car mowed down a New York sidewalk Wednesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a man, Shaun Martin, was arrested following the incident in Manhattan’s East Village in which his vehicle swerved out of control and hit a storefront flower stand.

Among those injured in the accident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m. was a 60-year-old grocery store worker.

Bystander Rafael Fuentes is quoted by the AP as stating of Martin, “Everything that was in the way, he took it out.”

Martin, 32, was stated to have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
