California – A high school coach has died following a freak accident on Monday. As reported by The Christian Post, Marion Adams who was a multimedia teacher and track and field coach at Rio Linda High School, was impaled by a metal parking lot gate after leaving a practice.

The incident occurred as Adams reportedly turned to tell a student goodbye, accidentally slamming his bike into the gate in the process. Two surgeries were subsequently performed to treat his critical injuries, but the coach passed away on Tuesday.

Mike Morris, the school’s varsity football team coach and athletic director, is quoted in the report as stating to the Sacramento Bee of Adam’s death, “Marion was the most popular and nicest man on campus; just a great guy. It’s a huge loss, devastating to our community.”
