Seattle – A group of Seattle teachers recently refused to administer a standardized test mandated for ninth-graders in their school district. As reported by Christian Science Monitor, the teachers labeled the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test among other things, a waste of time and school resources.

Kris McBride, academic dean and testing coordinator at Garfield High School, is quoted in the report as stating of the teachers’ decision, “Our teachers have come together and agreed that the MAP test is not good for our students, nor is it an appropriate or useful tool in measuring progress… Additionally, students don’t take it seriously. It produces specious results and wreaks havoc on limited school resources during the weeks and weeks the test is administered.”

The MAP test is reportedly administered as many as three times annually.
