Washington – President Barack Obama announced his formal nomination of John Kerry to the post of Secretary of State on Friday. As reported by The Ticket, Kerry has been nominated to succeed Hilary Clinton, who expressed last year that she would not be interested in serving in the position for a second term.

Obama is quoted in the report as stating of Kerry while giving his nomination, “Over these many years, John’s earned the respect and confidence of leaders around the world. He is not going to need a lot of on-the-job training… I think it’s fair to say that few individuals know as many presidents and prime ministers, or grasp our foreign policies as firmly as John Kerry. And this makes him a perfect choice to guide American diplomacy in the years ahead.”

Kerry is expected to be confirmed by the Senate.
